What you need to know to quit smoking

:-)

Ever tried to quit smoking? It is tough like hell and for those of you who are even remotely thinking of taking up smoking, don’t!

For those of you who are already in the deep end totally addicted to nicotine, it is not too late to try to quit smoking. You can always try cold turkey but this is the hardest way to quit. You can try to wear nicotine patches. One other way to do it is to take prescription medicines.

Two popular prescription medicines which can help you to quit smoking are Chantix and Zyban. Although they will both help you to quit smoking the two medicines differ from each other in many ways. Chantix is designed to reduce nicotine craving and withdrawal effects. It basically works by blocking the receptors in the brain that controls this addiction. Zyban is essentially an antidepressant and the FDA approved it as a smoking cessation medicine in 1997. The mechanism which enables the patients to abstain from smoking is still to-date unknown.

Chantix is manufactured by Pfizer whilst Zyban is produced by GlaxoSmithKline. Chantix is not recommended in combination with any other smoking cessation medicines. However a combination treatment of Zyban and NTS may be prescribed for patients who are trying to quit smoking.
