Who’s bad?

Cancer is bad.

There are the "good cancer outcomes as well".

Yet metastatic liver cancer is bad.

Add to "The Bad" also "The Ugly" if your liver starts feeding your brain with toxic blood….. Not the painkillers will get you, nor the metastatic liver cancer will get you, but the liver not doing what it is supposed to do… kind of getting poisoned from within.

Metastatic liver cancer

My old neighbour died of lung cancer and a few days before he died, I visited him. He needed extra oxygen but we had a conversation like we always had.

Liver cancer on the contrary doesn’t let your liver cleanse your blood and with all this poison in father’s brain, "we had a conversation like we always had" gets reduced to a few minutes a day…

Pain relief

If you have metastatic liver cancer, make sure you get well informed about pain relief.

Says the doctor: "your pain will go from little to bad to worse" yet we will give you pain medication for each of these 3 stages (little, bad, worse…no kidding)

Pain medication

Apart from having to live with a cancer, you will have to live with the side effects of your pain medication: constipation.

Ok you say, I can live with that…

You will be told you get:

  1. a mild painkiller like paracetamol,
  2. then to a stronger painkiller like tramadol or contramal and
  3. then you get morfine.

The ‘nobody told me this’ metastatic liver cancer story

  • In case you never saw a police movie… morfine: people use it to escape from this world… So actually your cancer will shoot you off this planet, if not morfine will. And try to act normal after finishing a bottle of whiskey, so imagine what happens when taking morfine pain medication…
  • In between the stages your pain is too much for the pain medication to take. You have to find this out by experience (that hurts!)… And you need to wait until the new pain medication works (that’s hell!)
  • Nobody told us that if all this doesn’t wipe you out, they will give some Haldol to make you less restless…. in other words 2 negations:

more medicine to make you rest….

Cancer writers wanted

  • Father cannot write due to his pain medication

Fathers’ wish is to pass the torch is still hot!
So is his spirit, not so his hands and feet.

Let your cancer be heard,
so somebody in power up there will get his priorities right

The ‘nobody told me this’ metastatic liver cancer story

Says the doctor to the cancer patient:
if you have more pain:
then you take more painkillers…..

Easy…

Imagine I put your thumb in a thumbscrew and start tightening it. But I know about pain management, so I give you a painkiller just enough to ease the pain.

You say "no problem, I don’t feel any pain…".

Until the painkiller has no more effect. What do you feel? Enormous pain!!!

Says the doctor to the cancer patient:
if you have more pain:
then you take more painkillers…..

Oh yeah?…

And what about those minutes our hours the painkillers need to ease the pain?

Cancer is a disease, pain is hell…

Cancer and Tumor writers wanted

  • Father cannot write and be in pain at the same time.
  • Without pain, father sleeps, so he cannot write…

Fathers’ wish is to pass the torch to other cancer and tumor patients or friends and family of caner and tumor patients (yes, a lot of cancer patients have no strength nor the (will)-power to start writing in the first place. Let the cancer voices be heard!
