My dad was on Evastin when he was first diagnosed back in February of last year he only got two doses in before he had to have emergency surgery, because it had worked so well that the tumor had broken down, and put a hole in his colon. They ended up getting the tumor out, but they had to stop using the Evastin because it was too strong and they were afraid it might rupture another hole in his colon. So here we are a year later and he has been through three other types of chemo, none of which have worked. They are now going to try to put him back on the Evastin starting today, a lighter dosage, and see if that works, this is his last chance, so we are keeping our fingers crossed, that it will work as well as it did the first time, on his liver and lungs, and at least extend his life a couple of more years. I will keep you updated on his progress.

My dad is 66 and has stage iV liver cancer, he was told 2 years ago he had about 10 weeks to live.
He started a diet of organic food, and different natural treatments recommended by different people.
He got better and went to Houston to MD Anderson.
He started Nexavar, and that seem to do the trick for a while, but his liver was very much damage by cirrhosis, although he never drank in his life (my grandmother and great granmother died of cirrhosis too).

He started having a lot of issues with his ammonium levels and had problems with balance, energy and general brain functions, he was very confused so they gave him lactulose to eliminate the ammonium from his blood.

After a year, Nexavar stop working and the tumor grew.
The double Nexavar's dose and that didn't help but actually was destroying the little bit of liver he had left.

Today he started Avasti (0nce a week) and next week it will be mixed with another treatment...I will post the name tomorrow.

I am afraid for my dad, but today he seem even cheerful and avastin only gave him a little bit of nausea .
We will see tomorrow....will he loose his hair?.

I will try to post as much as I can about his treatment.
I wish you all the best outcome in this fight.
Hold on and don't give up! my dad has been a live 2 years because he refuse to listen to "give up".

Hi,

I had a years course of Avastin for Secondary Liver Cancer and it stopped any new tumours from growing for over a year, then once I stopped taking it they came back.

The side affects were non-existant so i was very pleased about that i can tell you!

So yes I would say it definately works (for me anyway!)

I'm now trying to get my insurance company to pay for another years supply but having no luck at the moment.

It is through my company health insurance so they are speaking to them at the moment on my behalf.

Cheers

My 7 year old son has been on avastin, dosataxol(?) and gemsideabine for about a year now and the doctors and the MRI scans seem to show we are headed in the right direction. He has angiosarcoma in the liver. Treatment is every 2 weeks and side effects are mild.
