If it makes you healthy

Cancer survivor Sheryl Crow shares her healthy diet in her new cookbook "If it makes you healthy".

Sheryl started her diet from the moment she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006 and has been eating accordingly ever since. From that day on, Sheryl became interested in what she put in her body, especially when it came to boosting her immunity.

We have to mention up front that Sheryl’s cancer didn’t spread and she underwent surgery and radiation treatment: so she was not simply eating herself cancer free. As we know by now, there is no miracle medicine, so we have to listen to survivors and learn what they did in order to survive the disease.

It’ not clean cut rocket science, but since science doesn’t have the answers to cancer, we can learn the most from the experience of cancer survivors, hence the value of a diet or better put: a cookbook filled with healthy recipes like the one Sheryl and her personal chef Chuck White are sharing.

You heard that right: in stead of stuffing your body with fastfood because you have any excuse not to cook, Sheryl has the luxury to have a personal chef who takes the outmost special care of what goes into Sheryl’s body.

And that’s how you should treat your body as well: it’s the only asset you have in your battle against cancer or its prevention, so take some time and educate yourself what is healthy, where to buy it and how to prepare it.

When your excuse is "I have no time to cook, let alone to read health books", then my answer is: don’t wait until a doctor says you only have 3 to 6 months to go. You do have time and lots of it, don’t neglect it and let cancer rob it away from you.

Sheryl’s healthy recipes book’s title was inspired by her 1996 hit single “If It Makes You Happy.” Apart from a lumpectomy and radiation therapy, Sheryl advocates that in stead of getting health supplements out of pills, everything our body needs can be found in the most colorful vegetables we can eat.

Sheryl concludes that in this day and age, until we have a cure, early detection and prevention living a healthy lifestyle is the best that we have to beat cancer. "If it makes you healthy" will be available in a store near you from March 2011.
