7 Reasons to fail Bush as Oncologist

Suppose Bush = Oncologist and Iraq = Patient

The Iraq war is a nice comparison to cancer: it is bad, casualties are falling and it needs to be cured. We all agree about that. Yet let me compare what went wrong if Bush was an oncologist and Iraq was a patient.

Reason 1: a patient should see his doctor

The only reason why I went to see my oncologist, was after long, long list of seeing doctors and doing tests. Only then I went to see my oncologist and : the oncologist refused to visit me, I had to go to him! So bad oncologist Bush shouldn’t have gone to Iraq BUT in his favor I said already before: what do you do if you need help but you cannot see a doctor? Then you are happy the doctor comes to you.

Reason 2 : Oncologist doesn’t do diagnosis

I only got to see my oncologist AFTER all the tests and diagnosis where done, not BECAUSE all the researchers had to be pulled out of the land.

Reason 3 : don’t shoot with blanks

My oncologist refused to give me a chemotherapy aimed at treating colon cancer, because he was not sure that I had colon-cancer. Why was he not sure? Because he could not see them! So why aims Bush for treating WMD when they really cannot be seen at all?

Reason 4 : where is the primary cancer

My oncologist said: since we don’t know where your primary cancer is, we don’t know how to cure it, so no chemotherapy is a very wise choice!

Reason 5 : chemotherapy is a choice of the patient

Chemotherapy kills: it kills the good cells and hopefully it kills the bad cells faster. Yet it is up to the patient if he wants to go for chemotherapy, it is not up to the oncologist.

Reason 6: Chemotherapy can be stopped at all times

Sometimes the chemotherapy kills more good cells than it kills bad cells. Or some side-effects become worse that the chemotherapy itself. At the point when chemotherapy is kiling you it is wise to stop the chemotherapy: why would you like to continue to make things worse then they already are? Chemotherapy is not a cure: it kills good cells and hopefully the bad cells first.

Reason 7: quality of life

This is well the most important: oncologist and all the other doctors start talking about "quality of life". Yet "quality of life" is something the patient has to say what is quality for him. It is not up to my liver doctor to say that quality of life means skiing because she loves to go skiing. It is not up to oncologist Bush to say that quality of life is democracy because he loves democracy (and of course he does, as he is the leader…)
